GCSE Resits

At Burlington House Sixth Form we offer GCSE resit opportunities in English and Mathematics, so that students have the support and structure they need to secure these essential qualifications. Resit lessons are fully integrated into each student’s timetable and delivered as part of the normal Sixth Form day, rather than left to revision alone. Our approach is supportive, personalised and focused on progress.

November resit opportunities

For students who narrowly missed a pass in the summer examinations, there may be an opportunity to resit in November. Typically this applies where a student is within a small margin of a Grade 4, usually within five to ten marks across the papers. Students entered for the November series are expected to attend all scheduled lessons until results are released in January, which gives the best chance of success.

Mathematics pathways

For Mathematics, we offer Edexcel iGCSE resits alongside alternative pathways where appropriate, with each student’s prior attainment carefully considered and an individual plan agreed. Students who achieved a Grade 3 follow the iGCSE resit route, aiming to secure a Grade 4 or above. Students who achieved a Grade 1 or 2 may be better suited to a Functional Skills pathway, which focuses on practical, real-life mathematics and provides a structured route towards Level 2, equivalent to a GCSE Grade 4.

Other subjects

In some cases, students may also be supported to resit other GCSE subjects during their time in the Sixth Form. These decisions are made on an individual basis, taking into account each student’s wider programme of study and their progression goals.
