Curriculum

The curriculum at Burlington House School, Tooting is mainstream in structure yet specialist in nature, giving pupils aged 11 to 16 personalised support tailored to their learning needs alongside the chance to discover their strengths. It is designed to equip pupils with the skills and confidence to succeed in public examinations, including GCSEs, and to progress with confidence to the next stage of their education.

A curriculum built around the individual

Our school community is built on a deep knowledge of our pupils as individuals, and exploring their passions and interests sits at the heart of the curriculum. Specialist teaching is supported by assistive technology in the classroom, the targeted use of intelligent assessment, and both therapeutic and academic intervention, which allows us to identify gaps in understanding and accelerate progress.

Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4

Pupils follow a Key Stage 3 curriculum before moving into Key Stage 4 and their GCSE courses, with pathways chosen to suit each pupil’s strengths. Film and media is offered within Key Stage 3 as a specialist focus, building transferable skills that support learning across other subjects. Subjects taught include Computer Science, English, Fine Art, Design and 3D Design, Humanities, Physical Education and Science.

Confidence for the next stage

Our ambition is that pupils leave us as confident individuals, prepared to become engaged and active members of their communities, and with the habits of lifelong learners. A strong extra-curricular offering helps build self-belief and broaden horizons alongside academic study.
