The following science courses are available in the Sixth form.
- Biology A level (OCR Examination board)
- Chemistry A level (AQA Examination board)
- Physics A level (AQA Examination board)
How is it assessed ?
The Science A levels and AS levels are entirely assessed by terminal examinations. Practical skills are assessed separately. For A level, there is a minimum of 12 required practical activities to achieve the Practical Endorsement. This endorsement is separate from the final written exam and is graded as a pass or not awarded. Practical skills are assessed in the classroom by teacher observation.
Who is it for?
Science A levels are academically demanding. There is a lot of emphasis on memory, independent study and mathematical skills. Science A levels are only advisable for pupils who achieve grade 7 at GCSE in their chosen science or achieve at least 7-7 in Combined Science GCSE. The entry requirements are also a grade 7 in GCSE Maths and a grade 5 in GCSE English.
