Duke of Edinburgh Award

Burlington House School offers the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels across our Senior School and Sixth Form sites. The Bronze Award is open to all Year 10 pupils at our Bishops Avenue site with the option to progress to the Silver award in Year 11. Students at the Sixth Form are encouraged to enrol on the Gold award.

The DofE is a highly valuable, nationally recognised qualification for young people which builds resilience and fosters personal growth.

The Aim of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is to get young people involved in an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development. Among the many benefits of the award are self-belief, independence, time management, problem-solving skills, leadership skills and team-work skills. This awards links closely to the underlying ethos of the school, supporting the emotional wellbeing of our pupils and promoting self-reliance and confidence.

How the award works at Burlington House School:

Enrolment for the various levels of the award open in September with weekly training sessions taking place during enrichment sessions during the school day which prepare the participants for the expedition section of the award.

Participants are given the opportunity to visit some of the UK’s great areas of natural beauty such as the New Forest as well as the Peak District and Lake District Nation Parks

Participants are supported with the other sections but will need to commit to completing some of these outside of school in their personal time.

During the expeditions, participants aspire to self-sufficiency and are required to carry all their own equipment, including tent, cooker, food
