The Esports industry has rapidly grown in both viewership and workforce. The League of Legends World Championship 2023 Final was streamed by over 6.4million indicating worldwide appeal.
This GCSE level, 1 year course focuses on the business aspects of the Esports industry. Students will understand the wider context of the Esports industry, the technology involved and the events management skills required to be successful in the sector. Students will design, set up and run their own esports event to be streamed to a live audience. The course has accreditation from the British Esports Federation.
How is the course structured?
The award is made up of two mandatory, internally assessed units, which give an insight into the industry and allow learners to explore existing teams, events and fanbases. Assessments challenge learners’ evaluative and analytical skills as well as requiring creative and communication skills. Units are as follows:
- Esports Games, Teams and Tournaments (Internal Assessment)
- Establishing an Esports Organisation (Internal, Synoptic Assessment)
How is the course assessed?
All units are graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction. Assessments range from written pieces and presentations to creative designs and technical solutions to problems.
Where can the course take you?
The course can lead to further study in Esports, including level 3 Esports provision. However the course links well with the study of Business and encapsulates aspects of Media. Students will complete the course with an in-depth knowledge of the working practices and technical skills required to work within the Esports industry.
