Burlington House School, Tooting is a specialist independent secondary school for young people aged 11–16 whose primary barrier to learning is a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), including dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. We also recognise that pupils may have co-occurring needs, including dyspraxia, which are considered individually to ensure that pupils can access and benefit from our provision.
Now in our third academic year, we have established a supportive and ambitious school community where pupils are understood as individuals, encouraged to recognise their strengths and given the specialist support they need to thrive.
We provide a mainstream curriculum within a specialist setting, with a strong focus on preparing pupils for GCSEs, BTECs and their next steps in education.

Our ethos and aims
At Burlington House School, we recognise that every pupil learns differently. We place each young person’s strengths, needs and aspirations at the centre of our teaching, creating an environment where they can develop academically, personally and socially. Our ethos is reflected in daily lessons, assessments, relationships and enrichment activities.
Everything we do is guided by three pillars:

At Burlington House School, Tooting, we believe that thinking differently should never be a barrier to achievement. Our small classes allow teachers to know their pupils well and adapt teaching to individual learning profiles. Specialist teaching, assistive technology, pastoral support and therapeutic input work together to help pupils become more confident and increasingly independent learners.
Our approach is designed not simply to help pupils access the curriculum, but to enable them to recognise their abilities and develop the skills, confidence and resilience they will need beyond school.

We understand that young people with SpLDs may have experienced challenges in previous educational settings. Creating the right environment is therefore central to life at Burlington House School, Tooting.
Our pupils learn within a calm, nurturing and inclusive community where positive relationships between pupils and staff are fundamental. Alongside academic progress, we value personal development, creativity, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
Our enrichment programme and wider school activities give pupils opportunities to discover new interests, develop their talents and experience success beyond the traditional classroom.
An established and growing school
Since welcoming our first pupils, Burlington House school, Tooting has continued to grow. We now support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, with GCSE pathways in English, Mathematics, Sciences, Art and Geography and BTEC pathways in Performing Arts, Art & Design and Creative Media. These options help pupils work towards qualifications aligned with their strengths and aspirations.
Recognised for the quality of our provision
In our first full Ofsted inspection, Burlington House School Tooting was rated Good in all areas, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
Our broad and ambitious curriculum, skilled teaching and nurturing environment reflect our commitment to combining academic ambition with specialist understanding and genuine care for each individual.
