BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology

 

The UK technology industry employs over 2,000,000 professionals, with on average 90,000 new jobs each year (Comptia.org). The Digital Information Technology Tech Award prepares students to join this workforce or continue studies in Technology. The course offers students a varied introduction to the different areas of the UK IT industry. The course provides skills and knowledge which will aid students in all areas of modern employment. 

 

How is the course structured?

The course is a GCSE equivalent. The course is made up of theoretical and practical elements which will test student’s analysis and research skills as well as incorporating technical skills. The course runs over 1 academic year. 

 

Through the different components students will be required to evidence technical skills such as; project planning, interpreting data and understanding cyber security concepts. Students will also demonstrate skills in communication, organisation and teamwork. 

 

The course is assessed through a variety of internal pieces of coursework and a synoptic external assessment. 

The course is made up of 3 Mandatory Components: 

  • Exploring User Interface Design Principles and Project Planning Techniques (Internally Assessed)
  • Collecting, Presenting and Interpreting Data (Internally Assessed)
  • Effective Digital Working Practices (Externally Assessed, Synoptic Assessment)

 

How is the course assessed?

Students are assessed across both Level 1 and Level 2 grading criteria to support differentiation. Grades range from a Level 1 Pass to a Level 2 Distinction*. 

 

Where can the course take you? 

The Level 1/2 Award offers progression onto Level 3 provision. Including the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Information Technology. Students will also be equipped with skills to prepare them for employment both in the technology industry and the wider sector.
