BTEC Business Level 2 First Award

This course offers students an introduction to key concepts and skills in Business. This GCSE level, 1 year course equips students with fundamental knowledge and encourages the development of vital skills and behaviours to prepare students for further study or employment in the business sector. The course requires the demonstration of independent study skills, teamwork and communication. 

How is the course structured?

Students will explore the varieties of businesses, business models and the factors that influence business success. Through the delivery and assessment of 4 mandatory units, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary business sector. The mandatory units are 3 internally  marked, coursework based units and one externally marked assessment.  Units are as follows: 

 

  • Introduction to a Business (Internal)
  • Promoting a Brand (Internal)
  • Enterprise in the Business World (Internal, Synoptic)
  • Finance for Business (External)

 

How is the course assessed?

Throughout the course there are a variety of theoretical and practical coursework elements which test both academic and soft skills. All internal and external units are graded from Level 1 to Level 2 Distinction. 

Where can the course take you?

Students will be able to progress onto further studies in Business including the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business. Students will also be well equipped with knowledge on the core concepts and practices within the business sector, helping them prepare for employment. 

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business

This course provided learners with a deeper understanding of the contemporary business sector. The qualification is equivalent to 1 A-Level, running over two academic years. Specification content is delivered through vocational scenarios to encourage learners  to learn in a real world context and apply knowledge and skills as may be required in the workplace. 

The course offers an insight into Business Environments, Finance and Marketing allowing learners to sample a range of areas within the wider business sector. 

How is the course structured?

Students are assessed through 4 varied units. Units are assessed via internal coursework based units and externally set assessments. Units assess students’ theoretical knowledge, practical abilities and soft skills. 

Units are as follows: 

  • Exploring Business (Internal)
  • Recruitment and Business Finance (Internal)
  • Developing a Marketing Campaign (External)
  • Personal and Business Finance (External)

 

How is the course assessed?

Grades across units range from Level 3 Near Pass to Level 3 Distinction. The course has a mix of theoretical and practical assessment tasks. Assessments may challenge independent study skills, analytical skills, evaluative skills and creativity. 

Where can the course take you? 

The course can lead to further study in the field of business including HND course and Undergraduate study. The course also equips students with the tools required to access entry level employment in the business sector.
