BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production

This One A-Level equivalent, 2 year course provides students with industry standard skills in Media Production including film production, audio production and graphic design. Students will also develop interpersonal skills including self-management and communication skills. 

How is the course structured?

Students will undertake a range of internally assessed coursework units and externally assessed tasks. Internal units focus on creative production and require learners to use creative and technical skills to produce content. Theoretical content is also covered including the study of representation and the pre-production techniques. Units are as follows: 

  • Media Representations (External assessment)
  • Pre-production Portfolio (Internal assessment)
  • Film Production (Fiction) (Internal assessment)
  • Responding to a Commission (External assessment)

How is the course assessed?

All assessments are graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction at Level 3. Overall grades are then calculated from performance across units.

Where can the course take you? 

Students will gain a variety of industry standard skills in media production. The vocational context of the course prepares students for the world of work in the creative industries, with all units based around real world scenarios. Students will also be able to continue studies in Media at undergraduate or HND level. 

Level 1 & 2 Tech Award in Creative Digital Media Production

The Creative sector continues to grow and develop with exciting opportunities in a wide variety of creative, technical and managerial roles. UK TV and Film is one of our largest exports, with products being broadcast, printed and screened worldwide.  It is a perfect time to develop the skills that can lead to success in the industry. 

This GCSE level, 1 year course provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to begin their development towards a career of further study in Media. 

How is the course structured?

The BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Digital Media is made up of three main components. Component 1 is about exploring different types of media products, such as films, adverts, and games, and understanding how they are made and what makes them successful. Component 2 focuses on developing practical skills by planning and creating your own media product, like a video, magazine page, or digital advert. Component 3 is a final exam where you respond to a media brief by creating ideas and explaining your choices. Components 1 and 2 are assessed through coursework, while Component 3 is a written assessment set and marked by the exam board.

How is the course assessed? 

The course is graded at Level 1 Pass, Merit and Distinction & Level 2 Pass, Merit and Distinction. 

Where can the course take you?

Students will gain the basic skills required for content creation and will be able to confidently use a variety of industry standard software packages. Students will be able to continue studies in Media including progression to Level 3 study. Learners will also gain the knowledge and competencies required for entry level work in the Creative Industry.
