Science

The following science courses are available in the Sixth form. 
 
Biology A level (OCR Examination board) 
Chemistry A level (AQA Examination board) 
Physics A level (AQA Examination board) 

 

How is it assessed ?
The Science A levels and AS levels are entirely assessed by terminal examinations.  Practical skills are assessed separately. For A level, there is a minimum of 12 required practical activities to achieve the Practical Endorsement. This endorsement is separate from the final written exam and is graded as a pass or not awarded. Practical skills are assessed in the classroom by teacher observation. 

 

Who is it for ?
Science A levels are academically demanding. There is a lot of emphasis on memory, independent study and mathematical skills. Science A levels are only advisable for pupils who achieve grade 7 at GCSE in their chosen science or achieve at least 7-6 in Combined Science GCSE. The entry requirements for A Level Sciences are a grade 7 at GCSE in their chosen Science OR a grade 7-7 in Combined GCSE Science AND a grade 7 in GCSE Maths AND a grade 5 in GCSE English.
